"Cezanne Apples" 16"x20" oil on panel
“Cezanne Apples” or its more mundane title, “Apples with a Blue Pitcher” lights up a room. While the colors are painted realistically (yes, the apples were crazy bright), I wanted this piece to scream, “I’m a painting!”. It’s not enough that I can paint items from life to look like the real thing, I want my paintings to undoubtedly be art, perceived and made by hand, and this series is doing that.
This painting is part of a collection I’m working on which I’m calling my Cezanne inspired series.
After a visit to the Cezanne exhibit in Chicago, I’ve been excited to get more design, thicker paint, and flattened space into these select pieces. And just for visual fun, I’m playing with the concept of things (so far it’s fruit) cascading toward us on colorful cloths. I’ve always enjoyed painting fabrics, glass and pottery, so they tend to be in many still lifes of mine.
This painting is an oil painting on a flat Ampersand panel and measures 16”x20”.
