"The Bride” 40"x 36" oil on linen canvas

At various times, I have titled this painting Ophelia, The Bride or Annunciation, but it really could bear many titles. I don’t intellectualize my paintings while I work on them. I choose my subjects intuitively. Titles are slow in coming because I try not to anticipate where a painting will take me.

A young woman is seated alone in her wedding dress in an undefined space that can be past, present, or future- all of which tumble about in her mind. It is an iconographic moment. My friend Anna, as The Bride, represents to me those times of struggle between the ideal and the real. She could be Mother Earth (Gaia), a struggling nation, the heartbroken Ophelia, or Mary at the Annunciation. It is the moment when we recognize the real has supplanted the ideal, when the real subverts all imagined ideals.

The painting measures 40x36 and is oil on linen canvas. Being sold in its current pictured frame or in an alternative. Inquire for price and delivery/shipping options.

"Dove" or "Circe" 24"x 36" oil on panel

Sometimes she feels like a dove, a symbol of peace, and other times I’ve felt her Circe energy, full of power and passion. Doubtlessly, she’s both.

This figurative portrait was painted from live sittings and is an original oil painting on a panel support.

"Lucrezia" 35"x47" oil on linen canvas

This painting was painted from life in Florence, Italy. The model was a young woman from Sardinia, but my initial concept for the piece was based on a Rembrandt painting of Lucretia. Over the years, I’ve titled it: “Girl from Sardinia”, “Her Name Is Allegory”, and “Lucretia” (Lucrezia in Italian). I’m back on “Lucrezia” again, but you may take your pick!

This painting is a 35”x47” original oil on linen. In its custom American handcrafted frame (Hackman Frames) it measures: 53"h x 48"w x 1" 3/4d.

”Cedric and Chickadee” 24”x 50” oil on linen

This painting won Best in Show in the Muskegon Museum of Art’s Regional Exhibition. The subject (my child) stands as innocence with his back to an incoming storm, holding an even more vulnerable life in his hands, a small bird.

“La Donna Incinta (The Pregnant Woman) 31’x 47” inches (120x80 cm)

Painted from life in 27 hours, this piece carries the love, hope and optimism of a first-time mother. There are echoes of the Virgin Mary in this piece for sure.

“Woman with a Red Shawl” 35”x 47” inches (90x120 cm) oil on linen

Another portrait painted from life in Florence, Italy, this painting has a lot of movement and life force. It’s likely due to the model being a dancer. In the end it felt to me like a Mary Magdalene artwork, which makes an interesting “other Mary” contrast painting to the restful "La Donna Incinta” piece.

“Young Woman with a Cup of Coffee” 28”x 34” inch oil on linen

I was very happy with this painting and entranced by the beauty of the sitter. I had done drawing of her, and when I saw her sitting in this plush robe, I decided I’d like to do a painting like that. The warm, brown coffee is held in a white mug, which mimics the portrait. I actually didn’t think of that until the painting was complete.

"The Reader"

30"x24"x1.5" Oil on Linen Canvas

$1700

This warm interior painting of a woman reading a book was painted from life around 2007. My studio furniture all has a Dutch feel to it, and I enjoyed making a modern Dutch art inspired painting. Since I lived near Holland, MI at the time, it’s quite likely the model was of Dutch descent.

For readers, there’s nothing so comforting as being reminded of the happy times with a book in hand!

This 30x24x1.5 inch oil painting on hand-primed linen canvas will be framed to suit in a prefessional quality gold metal leaf frame. (Price reduced if you want to frame it on your own)

*This original artwork is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity and is expertly packed.
