Spring Whispers in the Wind: the art of spring

I looked up spring poems and songs this morning, and while I did find some lovely ones to share in the next few weeks, today I decided to share this simple song my mom and aunt sang to me as a child. It cannot be found on the internet! It’s got a lovely little melody and I hear my mom’s voice and my own (I sang it to my own children) blending together... Having a song feels like a heartbeat, human and ancient, like I’m holding hands with the women and mothers in my family down through the years.

"Spring whispers in the wind
Stirs among the boughs
Wakes the tender buds with its call.
Spring murmers in the stream, surges in the brook, rushes in the clean waterfall.

Loud sounds the shepherd's horn among the rocks,
Calling to summon home snowy flocks.
Gay, gaily in the night, gaily in the night, plays the water sprite.

Yet, in my beating heart,
sorrow lingers on,
colder than the touch of the snow...
when I remember joy and the lovely days of a happy spring...long ago."
